“Who said that, because there is noise in these times, silence is no longer something necessary?” asks the Argentine guitarist Juan Falú to some students at a meeting. A cult musician, Falú makes his debut at our festival alongside Sílvia Pérez Cruz, who, after performing with a large group on stage, will return to a much more intimate proposal this fall. A duo recital, stripped down to voice and guitar, is also an old dream of the artist from Palafrugell, who for years did everything possible to share the stage with the Argentine musician and singer after a fleeting first meeting in Buenos Aires. Until one day, on March 23, 2022, at Café Berlín in Madrid, where he was performing, she showed up, and finally their paths crossed. Without a prior rehearsal, they performed three songs together: Oración del remanso, Piedra y camino, and La nochera. The magic had happened. A month later, in April 2022, also in Buenos Aires, they recorded an album that makes up the repertoire they will perform at these concerts, the fourth meeting of Sílvia Pérez Cruz with Juan Falú. “Singing with Juan is freedom, it is music in its purest form; there is no thought, only feeling and flight,” the singer wrote, adding: “Listening to him is a beauty that fills me, surprises me, and moves me. His counterpoints, his silences, how he tells what he tells, and the infinite weight of what he doesn’t play.” “Meeting Silvia Pérez Cruz was one of the sublime experiences in my musical life,” said Falú: “Silvia does not just sing. She speaks, screams, whispers, laughs, and cries, with overflowing musicality. That voice, intertwined with my guitar, reminds me of the sacredness of music.” We are undoubtedly in for a very exciting night.
