A musical journey between the Nordic landscape and Russian fantasy. Kian Soltani, one of today’s leading cellists, performs the most iconic concerto in the cello repertoire: Elgar’s, a work of deep lyricism and captivating melancholy. The Iceland Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Eva Ollikainen, presents Sibelius’s Pohjola’s Daughter, a symphonic poem filled with legendary resonances, and Thorvaldsdottir’s Archora, an immersive dive into the Icelandic composer’s sonic world. The concert culminates with Stravinsky’s The Firebird Suite, an explosion of colour and rhythm that revolutionised 20th-century music. A programme of fascinating contrasts and evocative textures.
